10 Healthy Habits You Should Do Everyday

With summer around the corner this is a perfect time to start incorporating some healthy daily habits. Maybe it’s the snow melting and the sun finally coming out but suddenly I am in the mood for a fresh outlook on life. I always talk about how I want to start taking my health more seriously, but when your boyfriends 6’3 and can incinerate everything he eats I always find myself at another restaurant getting a pizza. Eating out if a habit I’m trying to break for the sake of my waist line and bank account. To start a new outlook I want to make sure I am doing some healthy habits everyday!

Here Are 10 Healthy Habits You Should Do Everyday

Make a healthy breakfast – It’s no secret that your day truly starts when you have breakfast. In the summer I live off smoothies and granola but in our cold Canadian winter I wake up by having a nice cozy bowl of blueberry oatmeal with steel-cut oats. It not only breaks your “fast”, kick start you metabolism, or help your concentration – it keeps you from over eating throughout the day which in the end helps manage weight.

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day –  Over the summer I was told to drink at least 6 litres of water a day by my doctor since I am outside a lot so that’s what I do. Water keeps your body functioning properly, flushes out any bad toxins, reduces bloating, aides weight loss, and keeps your muscles preforming that their best!

Get more sleep – I don’t know how people run on 5-6 hours of sleep every night. I need a good 8-9 hours to keep me inspired, energetic and motivated throughout the day. Being a Girl Boss is tiring stuff so make sure you are getting your beauty sleep. The benefits of extra zzzzz can stop you from overeating throughout the day, fights off fatigue, keeps you alert and those are only the few benefits of getting a goodnights sleep. There’s a reason we do it everyday of our lives. Just make sure you aren’t oversleeping because that can sometimes be just as bad as under sleeping.

Wake up earlier – Early bird catches the worm! It’s no secret that successful people wake up at the same time everyday. Even on weekends. While most people are sleeping at 6 in the morning successful people can find time in the quiet to organize, plan, and set goals for the day without any distractions. As a former night owl who never got a goodnights sleep, was always groggy and never had a routine, I have found that waking up earlier has not only helped me get a goodnight sleep, but I am more productive and I am more positive!

Get daily exercise – I think people confuse this as needing to go to the gym everyday in order to make a difference. This is not the case. You just need to get moving and stay active throughout the day. Whether it’s going for a quick walk, doing some yoga or taking a workout class, the only thing that’s really important is that you get active and get moving. It’s recommend that you get at least 30 mins of cardio 3X’s a week so do what works for you because you’ll be more likely to stick to something you enjoy.

Take time for yourself – This is sooo important for us to stay sane and healthy in our chaotic lives. I am lucky that I get a house to myself 50% of the time because when I am surrounded by people I can feel just how much more drained by the end of the day. An amazing thing I hear again and again is that we should all start meditating. Does anyone do this? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Unplug – I am the first to admit that my phone is glued to my hand but everyday I reminded myself that I need to put it down and step away. This goes for TV, computers, etc.

Cut out processed / white foods – This is one of the most important things I ever did as a teenager who was completely unhealthy, had no energy, slept all day, was negative and depressed. Once I started a healthy lifestyle where I was eating clean everyday and started to exercise (I used to only be able to run 10 minutes before I was defeated) I noticed my mood was up, I had more energy, I was more positive, and I looked forward for the day instead of being a little depresso.

Stop comparing your life to others – This has been a big one for me especially as a blogger who is constantly reading and finding inspiration online and on Instagram (have you added me yet?). I lost myself in the social game and felt inadequate when you look at someone like Kylie Jenner who is living her dream in a gorgeous house with a makeup and clothing line at the age of 19. Comparison really starts to take its toll on your mind and confidence and finally one day I said enough, I can’t change the past and I can’t change how I had lived my life so far. I can only shape my future and try harder to accomplish my goals because when I was 19 I didn’t even know what I wanted. I was working at Costco serving french fries in the food court so when I look at how far I’ve come from then I’m not doing so bad. For more about defeating comparison check this out

Go outside I am a firm believer that nature is the cure for everything. Nothing beats the smell of fresh air or the smell of rain. I like to think that’s natures way of de-stressing and rejuvenating us.

I agree that it’s so important to go outside every day! But I’m finding it so hard right now to spend quality time outdoors since I’m so sick of the cold and it’s still not spring here in Toronto.

It’s crazy how I literally do like none of these haha shame! I’m trying hard to implement these kind of things one at a time but I’m so bad at doing what I know is good for myself!
