If there’s anytime of year that gets you motivated it’s the New Years.
We start our resolution lists, write our mission statements and start preparing to conquer the year that’s quickly approaching.
The year of doing. The year of fresh beginnings.
Here are 27 reminders for the New Years so you can make this the most refreshing year ever!
It’s okay not to be at your dream job right now – If you’re working some job you don’t like that’s okay. You still have lots of time to make a change because from what I’ve seen, we’re all just figuring it out as we go.
Everyday is a new day to try harder – The fact that you want to try harder is a victory in itself because it means that you haven’t given up and are ready to take on the world.
You’re not as old as you think you are – when you’re 18 you miss being 16, when you’re 21 you miss being 18, when you’re 24 you miss being 21 and so on and on. The fact is you are always going to be missing the “glory days” but the glory days are right in front of you and always will be because these are the days we’re going to look back on and smile about
You don’t need to be in a relationship – You can be single and still be amazing. You can be in a relationship and be amazing. I think in these situations people always think the grass is always greener when, trust me, I have done the work. The grass is as good as you water it.
You’re allowed to feel lost – Everyone’s felt lost at some point. I’m not joking – Everyone. You’re friends, your family, your friends friends moms sisters daughter. They’ve all felt lost. So you’re good because it’s better feeling lost now than when you’re 10 years deep into a job or relationship that you just don’t know about anymore.
Start loving yourself – Hard. Being a self conscious teenager was a nightmare, being a self conscious adult is gonna be nightmare so give yourself a break! Start picking the things you like about yourself instead of the things you don’t. Rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t say it to your friend don’t say it to yourself!
Remember we’re all just fumbling around – I know so many people who went to school for years and got a good paying job only to find that they didn’t want to do that anymore. I’ve know people who do know what they want and are still trying to figure it out. I know adults who are still trying to figure it out. Moral of the story is we are all confused and figuring it out along the way.
You have a 100% survival rate – If you are reading this you are doing great.
You will never be as young as you are now.
Keep a journal – I am a journal hoarder but these pasts few months I let the habit slip away from me. I can’t tell you how embarrassing it is to read the journal entires I made when I was still in high school but I can tell you how happy I am that I wrote them. It’s great to see how much you’ve changed!
Work hard – Nothing is going to fall into your lap unless you are born into the Kardasian clan, which common, we all have thought of at some point, but the truth is unless you are willing to put into the work you aren’t going to get as far as were you would be if you had put in the extra hours a day
There’s always room to improve – Never stop editing your life until you are fully satisfied.
Be easy on yourself – Don’t fret about the little things that go wrong because what I’ve learned from the countless books I’ve read – something will always go wrong. But that’s not necessary a bad thing!
Learn from your mistakes – But then move on. You aren’t going backward you’re going forwards!
Start working out – Start a workout regimen that YOU can work with. Don’t join a running team if you hate running and don’t join yoga because that’s what everyone else is doing. Find what suits you and if you get bored change it up!
Feed your body nutrients – Not junk. Your body is your temple that is going to last a lifetime so be good to it. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, drink mint tea and 2-4 LTRS of water a day. Live by the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time eat healthy and fresh and 20% of the time you can indulge in naughty food. Trust me, when you start cutting out the sugar and refined carbs you will stop craving it.
Take days off for yourself – Life is overwhelming. You have your job, your family, your friends, your roommates. Even standing in line at a coffee shop you can get annoyed with the conversations going around you (please say I’m not the only one here) so take a day off for yourself once in a while.
Be honest – If someone asks for your opinion give it. Don’t bulldoze them with it but if someone values your opinion they would want a gentle answer. And if they go on without your advice then back them up in their choice.
Don’t compare your life with others – Comparison will be the end of us.
Find who you admire – And then strive to do better than them. Nothing like having a healthy competition with someone who literally doesn’t know you exist but, learn from them and others like them and then strive to do just as good because you can.
Laugh at yourself – How cliche of me to write but who else makes a joke to themselves and then starts laughing at themselves? Be your own entertainment!
Eat more frequently – If you are starting to feel agitated or angry out of the blue think of the last time you ate. More than 3 hrs ago? Time to get a snack and see if you feel better. And then apologize to anyone who got in your hanger trail.
Clean out your closet – Be honest with yourself and throw it out. Some places will pay you for your gently used clothes but if they don’t take them time to donate it.
Embrace the change – Failed? Try harder. Got kicked down? Good. Now get back up and do some kicking of your own. Change is where we start growing and finding out what we’re made of.
Make your own decisions – Someone made you question your choices? Made you reconsider your dreams? Prove them wrong with your success. Let your achievements speak for you.
“Don’t let someone who has done
nothing tell you how to do
Embrace your life – This is our world, our time, our ambitions and our future. Live fiercely, love passionately, make it a beautiful mess and stay wild.
Cheers to the New Years I hope this is your best year yet! Do any of you have grand ambitions for 2016? Write them down in the comments!
