As usual I looked to Pinterest and Google for guidance when searching for Vancouver’s best cafe and to my joy I found the 49th Parallel to be at the top of the list. Oddly enough it was from that same Top 25 Cafes To Visit post from Pinterest where I found the Coffee Academics!
While we didn’t have to much time exploring cafes as we were only there for 2 days we made our way to the corner of Main St and Main St (confusing right?) and walked the rest of the way to Vancouver’s best cafe.
When we got in it was quite busy for seating but we managed to nab a two seater table near the back. At the door we were greeted with a display case of donuts and a simple menu board to choose from.
Being a hot day we ordered two Ice Americanos to stay and a Dolce and Banana Donut which was supposed to be my second attempt at getting my cousin a donut because I was supposed to get her one at Cartems (read that here) but they had walnuts on it. It turned out the flakes on top of the donut at 49th Parallel were walnuts as well.. I gave up on getting her donuts after that.
Something that I really enjoyed about 49th Parallel was the bar where you put in your own sugar and milk had two different kind of free syrups, maple and honey, and soy milk which I thought was really cool as I don’t drink dairy and paying the extra .75$ for soy milk and .75$ for syrups really adds up!
While 49 Parallel is a bit away from downtown and the main sights I’d recommend it if you have extra time on your hands. You’ll notice that most other cafes carry 49th Parallels baby blue mugs for drinks to stay although I’m not really sure why. They are cute though.
