If you are planning to go to Tokyo I have one thing to say.. Tokyo is awesome. It is definitely one of the most exciting places I have ever travelled to. The lights, the noise, the quirks.. everything is so different from my hometown in Canada. When I was in grade 4 I learned about Japan in my geography class and out of all the countries we learned, I was hooked on Japan. I swear for 3 Christmases in a row I got Japanese tea sets and lanterns.
The first time I went to Japan was when I turned 18 and was lucky enough to go during cherry blossom season
PS you can buy prints here <3Β
Fast forward a few years and I took my boyfriend their on a month stint in Asia. We arrive from Kyoto and you could tell there was this buzz about Tokyo. Here were my favourite things to do in this vibrant city.
1. Shibuya CrossingΒ – You probably know this already, this is an iconic Tokyo site and the busiest intersection in the world. Once you cross the chaos intersection head to the Starbucks. You might think βHow lame a Starbucks.β but it has a really awesome view where you can people watch. I think one of my favourite moments was when I was with Aaron and he made me run out into the crowd while he took a picture from the Starbucks.
2. Harajuku – If you’re like me then you know all about cosplay, lolitas, trendy styles and then the extremes. If you don’t then Β head to Harajuku to see what the fuss is about. The sights, the people, the crepes on every corner and all the amazing stores to look at.. was a dream.

3. Tokyo Sky Tree Β – View Tokyo by night – Iβm always reluctant to go up high (Iβm afraid of heights) but after some coaxing from Aaron I made it up the building and really did love the view. There’s something so mesmerizing about watching a city at night. The lights, the twinkles – it really gives you a perspective on how big Tokyo is.
4. Asakusa Temple – preferably during a festive time. I was lucky enough to be here during cherry blossom season and it was amazing. The cherry blossoms blooming everywhere, the smell of sweets being made, everyone smiling and happy. Not to mention all the vendors, kimonos, and trinkets for you to look at.
And then there was the smell of incense burning and you could hear the monks song in the temple.. it was all so beautiful. I also share more intimate and ‘real-time‘ photos on my Instagram so make sure you’re following if you aren’t already!Β
5. Eat all the foodΒ – Tokyo has the most diverse food Iβve experienced over my two trips to Japan. Not only is it easy to find vegetarian options around the main areas but the food is awesome. One day I got sick of noodles so I got a veggie burger and it was fantastic. Go try the weird ice cream and crepes to! Great places for food are San Francisco Peaks by Harajuku, or MOS Burger! I felt like an idiot because it is a fast delicious Japanese burger chain that has vegetarian burgers.. The amount of times Iβve been starving and walked by one of these.. Now you know.
6. Explore Kiddy Land –Β It’s not just for kids. There are a few locations but you’ll most likely want to visit the one not to far from Harajuku. This 5 story building has everything kawaii and you can shop your favourite anime characters. They have a Ghibli section where you can find all of your Totoro needs.

August 5, 2017 at 9:28 amI love Tokyo so much. May I ask where in Asakusa did you find the ice cream vending machine? It looks awesome! π

August 12, 2017 at 6:54 amI think the ice cream was just a display? I honestly can’t remember the exact location it’s been a few years but I think it was near the temple ground. I didn’t wander that far around the temple so it should be close π
