5 Simple French Beauty Tips

French beauty tips has been something I’ve been obsessing over ever since I’ve gone to Paris. And now I’m going back in two weeks! I never thought I would like Paris, you know, it being so cliche and all, but as soon as I landed and took a stroll through St. Germain all of that changed. The flower shops, the cafes, the boutiques, the cobble stone streets, the architecture, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Seine River.. All of it stole my heart and since the day I left I have been dreaming of going back.

I recently read How To Be A Parisian and could not put it down! You can say Paris has consumed me these past few days leading up to our trip, you know with all the online shopping to make sure I have the perfect outfits (I always forget that I should probably buy clothes once I’m in Paris.. c’est la vie). To fully prepare myself for Paris though I have put together 5 ways to achieve the perfect Parisian look with these 5 French Beauty Tips!

5 Simple French Beauty Tips:

1. Less is more

French women don’t wear a lot of makeup aside from a bold lip colour. For them it’s always about being the best version of themselves, not hiding it under piles of makeup. They take care of their skin so they don’t need to wear lots of foundation. Instead they stick to concealers, mascara, and a bold lip to keep their look effortless and chic – the classic French look

2. Forget The Straightener

The French look is effortless. And that means your hair has to look effortless without looking like you’re trying to look effortless. Does that make sense? The French seem to stay away from primping their hair or going for giant blowouts. Instead they wash their hair before bed so while they sleep their hair dries in whatever way they were sleeping. Some people might find this hard to deal with but I have always loved the messy undone look and luckily – so do the French. Throw in some texture spray and you’re done!

3. Start Skin Care Now

Since I learned that I too one day would have wrinkles I have been moisturizing my face 2-3 times a day and drinking about 3 litres of water a day. The French have been taking care of their skin since they were mere teenagers so that they would have to do less work when they were older. This doesn’t mean they shy away from cigarettes and wine, quite the contrary, but alas the French are not perfect which is even more annoying at just how perfect they are. So if you aren’t taking care of your skin you start today. Cleans, exfoliate, moisturize and always always wash off your makeup.

4. Say No To Bolds

They French do no wear hot pink clothes unless maybe it’s a sports bra and even then that’s a maybe. Instead they still to neutrals and navy blues to make a clean look. Nothing loud but maybe a nail polish. Find a staple peace as well, preferably and heirloom or something of memory to you, maybe it’s jewelry or a blazer. That is now your French staple.

5. Relax

My favourite thing about the French, and Europeans for that matter, is that everything they do has a purpose. They do not worry about eating alone or taking a stroll down the Seine River or simply laying in the sun on a warm day. They live slow and enjoy the moments in their life. In North America we are constantly worrying we aren’t doing enough, aren’t successful enough and have this idea of how things should be being pushed down our throats with billboards and commercials that we find it hard to stop and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. A happy soul and mind will shine through you and that in itself is a powerful beauty tip!

I know! 🙂 When I was in Europe, I didn’t care much about how I looked. But when I got to Paris, I couldn’t leave my apartment without putting on some “natural look” makeup because otherwise, I wouldn’t fit in! They’re just all so gorgeous. <3
