Travelling is a freeing experience. It’s like nothing else matters in the world. You’re embracing the world and getting your hair messy in the whirlwind of this crazy adventure. And you can be so focused on where to stay, where to go, where did you see that acai bowl place on Instagram, should I bring that cute hat that you might be overlooking a few simple things you need to be doing before your flight.
Here Are 5 Must Do’s Before Your Trip
Backup your phone – If any of you follow my Instagram or Twitter you’ll know I just suffered a recent tragedy where I lost over 17,000 photos I had taken over my trips to Europe and Asia and I am heart broken about it. When I travel taking and editing photos helps with my stress/anxiety and gives me something to focus on so to have all of that taken away was crushing. I have a Macbook Air with limited storage space so backing up my phone results in loss of space and loss of speed so I thought “It can wait.” You know, until I make more room. And then of course it was that day that I broke my beautiful phone even though it was in its Lifeproof case. Apparently it’s not Shelby proof. But I know there is nothing I can do about it so now I will never procrastinate on backing up my phone again. A hard lesson learned so always backup your phone!
Get travellers insurance – I spent a month in Europe with no travellers insurance and I was pretty much freaking out about it the whole time. I would ignore my thoughts, always thinking I was going to jinx myself (knock on wood), and praying I didn’t get sick because when I get sick I’m down for the count. There’s no recovery for me without a Doctor and I don’t know how far my Nyquil would get me. So always always remember travellers insurance just to be safe and have peace of mind if nothing else.
Get directions to your first hotel – Twice I have found myself stranded at a train station because I thought “Oh, they’ll have free wifi at the train station.” only to find that they didn’t have wifi and I was at risk of turning on my data and being overcharged. A cheeky way around this once though was I went into a hotel in Ronda to honestly just ask for help when there was no one at the counter. It was then, like a beacon of hope, I saw the wifi code behind the desk soooooo like a crazy person I furiously entered the ridiculously long password and got directions before anyone knew I was there. 007 stuff right there..
Call your banks and give them a travel notice – This can be done online nowadays for us introverts and only takes a few minutes. I hear you don’t need to do it with your Visa’s, only Debits (weird right?), so just go online and see what you need to do so you don’t wind up in Japan with no money.
Clean out your purse – How many receipts, random lotions and “I might need this” do you have in your purse/bag? Few things annoy me more than trying to find something in my bottomless pit of a purse when you have to start shifting through rubbish and change. For a stress-free purse experience leave everything you don’t need at home and keep items to a minimum!
