With spring around the corner you can start to feel that “itch.” That small itch for a fresh start. With the flowers blooming and the weather warming up it never hurts to follow the seasons and refreshening up you outlook on life! And the first step to a renewed outlook is living well – Inside and out!
6 Steps To Living Well
Take care of your body – It’s an old saying but your body is your temple! It’s something you should nurture inside and out because this is where all your feel good energy comes from. I wasn’t always a health nut like I am today and the thought of working out left me feeling pathetic in my teens. I would try to run and not be able to go for long (I’m talking 5 minutes) and that would put me into this self loathing mindset because how could I possibly get into shape at this rate? When I was about 20 I decided all of this was in my head and I had the power to change so I started being healthy because I loved myself! I started eating for nutrition – not calories. I started running for stress – not weight-loss. Within a month I went from 7 minutes to 30 minutes! I started adding squats and crunches and before I new it I was starting to see changes! The difference between 20 year old me and 16 year old me was when I was 20 I worked out because I cared how I felt on the inside – Not how I looked!
Take care of you mind – Taking care of your mind has to be the most important thing on the steps to living well list. It all starts with the mind. Once you control your thoughts away from all the negativity and start to add positive affirmations you’ll start feeling happier and become at peace with yourself. Everyday we are taught that we need to look a certain way, earn a certain wage, you have till this age to be in your career, and you act a certain way to avoid judgement blah blah blah.. All of this becomes crippling to the mind and well.. overwhelming. Once you start a positive attitude and take care of yourself first amazing things will start to happen!
Eat well – It’s not a secret that everything starts inside out. Your skin, your hair, your nails and most importantly, your wellbeing. Everything you eat and drink affects you and sometimes it can be in a positive or negative manner. Stick to nutrient rich foods like fruit, veggies, and healthy grains like buckwheat and oatmeal. And of course you’re allowed to indulge in little treats! This is life! I like to live by the 80/20 rule – 80 precent, 20 percent treats!
Let go of fear of judgement – Stop worrying about what people will think of you, what strangers think, what everyone thinks. Just do what makes you happy, even if you have to go against your family and friends. If I had listened to my family I wouldn’t have travelled the world and be sitting in Positano as I write this. I wouldn’t be living my dream. So where what you want, travel where you want, do whatever it is that makes you happy!
Leave the past alone – If I sat and kept looking back at all the dumb things I’ve done I would probably go insane with embarrassment. Don’t dwell on the past and over things you can’t change! If it was somethings you can learn from then take the lesson and move on. No sense in losing sleep over something you can’t change!
Get a regular sleep schedule – Another step to living well is getting enough sleep. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night to help your body and mind function at their best. I know this sounds like grandma talking but I go to bed at 9Pm and wake up around 5:00- 5:30 depending on how the snooze button’s looking. And honestly I’m thinking about going to bed at 8:30.. Sometimes you got to listen to your body! This schedule has helped my mood and my productivity enormously! It’s the simplest solutions that are the most effective I find.
Give back – It doesn’t need to be grand, it just needs to be with your heart. There are many little ways we can give back like volunteering, donating, helping a friend out, or just being an ear for someone to talk to without judgement. We all need a little support once in a while!
