As travellers of any kind know, just because you’re travelling doesn’t mean you’re vacationing. Travelling takes time, planning, and can sometimes leave you feeling more tired than when you left (all worth it of course!). As I travel more and more frequently, I have started to crave that little relaxation time. That time where you sit on your butt, sip a cup of coffee (wine..) and just turn off. Since I travel with my boyfriend, Aaron, we are always worn out and never really give ourselves downtime so when the opportunity came to go to Italy’s most beautiful cliffside city I knew this would be a perfect romantic getaway!
A Romantic Getaway In Positano
The greatest part about planning a romantic getaway to Positano was there was nothing to plan. Being in Positano was unreal on its own. We just stayed at a lovely hotel overlooking the beautiful city and went with the flow and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
On our first day we stayed in the hotel after a long travel day from Florence and needed some restful sleep. The next day though we walked to Positano, and if I you are a new reader than let me tell you I am scared of heights, and trying to walk along the cliffs edge was so stressful! I always feel like I’m going to just fall over. Silly right? Thankfully as we spent more time there the more I realized I had nothing to worry about. A lady who lived there told me they were used to the cliffs so it wasn’t scary for them to drive or walk on them which made me feel a lot better. Of course they are safe!
We walked down to the main beach where we stopped into one of the restaurants where I got a eggplant parmesan and Aaron got the chicken parmesan. It was amazing! A must try in Italy. After filling up on bread and cheese with bits of eggplant we spent the day relaxing on the beach. It was amazing and surreal to be somewhere so different from anywhere I’ve ever been before. The Amalfi Coast is truly a unique travel destination.
Being a couple of foodies we had plenty of delicious restaurants to choose from and you can’t really feel guilty because there is so many stairs in Positano. Like a little workout to get to the restaurants. It was also really nice because we were still in the off season so it wasn’t packed and overflowing with people.
While you can’t really see the sun set in Positano you can see the sunrise and even though you are waking up at 5:30 the view is completely worth it. I live in a central city with no seas or oceans to have the sun set or rise over so I was in awe of the pretty purples and how the city illuminated in the morning. It was like another world.
Then it was time to rent a boat to ourselves and make our way along the coast to Capri! We stopped into a little convenience store and bought some snacks and drinks and then set off in our private little boat! Perfect for floating around or exploring in. It was a pretty dreary day when we rented it, I would love to go back and try again for a warmer day.
When we got to Capri we had lunch and spent some time just enjoying how beautiful and amazing everything was even though the water was pretty choppy. Having the boat to ourselves made the moment just that much more special. You can go the cheaper route and take a ferry to Carpi but I like the luxurious feeling of having your own space and agenda. I mean you already made it to Amalfi you might as well go all out.
On our second last day I had gotten sick (I blame lack of nutrients and the train stations) so I could only keep my eyes open for a few hours before I got sleepy. So instead of contaminating everyone around me we got pizza delivery in Positano!! We both ordered our own pizza and a salad and had a bottle of wine on our patio overlooking Positano. It doesn’t need to be luxury all the time for the moments to be special and amazing! I don’t think there are many things that are cuter than just being able to enjoy a moment with someone while forgetting about the grace of eating a pizza and drinking wine.
On our last day it was raining and foggy which turned Positano into Jurassic Park. Even in the rain Positano is still a romantic getaway. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place to have a romantic getaway if I tried! Positano is great for couples, friends, family and solo travellers who like just hanging out and exploring!
