Benefits Of Travelling While You’re Young

The benefits of travelling while you’re young are almost endless. As a very shy introvert I can honestly say nothing has made me grow more than being a traveller.

Before I was scared to ask questions, order my food, make small talk, all that normal people stuff. Travelling helps you with that. Sometimes you don’t have a choice but to ask “what time does the train leave?” or “is there meat in this?” because you can’t read the menu. Yes I am still shy and rather keep to myself but I am more confident in what I say and what I want in life. I am not a picky eater anymore (besides celery) and I can make my way through any airport and can figure out how a cities grid works. I can get myself to point A to B and can manage my time so I’m not sprinting for airplanes.

I have learned many lessons since I started travelling and while I don’t know everything and am still learning and growing this is how travelling has benefited me.

You will gain independence, because no on is going to make the decisions for you

You learn time management, so you’re not running for all those trains and planes

You become a budgeting master, so you can afford a place to sleep and still get that gelato you spotted a block back. Lucky you

You are likelier to be risky, because a little adventure never hurt

You’ll be more open to trying new things, and have great stories to tell when you get home

You’ll learn to open up, because it doesn’t hurt to ask for directions

You will make new friends, and share their story around the world

You’ll be more confident, and from there find where your passion lies

You’ll be more open minded and cultured, because you can’t learn everything about people from a text book

You will be humbler, because we’re all just small fish in a big crazy world

You will grow more everyday, and become the person you were born to be

You will appreciate the simplicity of doing nothing, because time enjoyed isn’t time wasted

You will learn to love yourself, because great things happen when you love yourself first

You understand you aren’t promised tomorrow, so make every minute

“You don’t know what your future

holds. Don’t wait till your 65 to start

living.”

Mhm! It’s nice knowing you can fend for yourself even though I’m guilty of hiding when strangers knock on the door 😛

Couldn’t agree more! I definitely think I come back very different after each trip overseas. It’s like a part of me is left behind, but the rest of me grows up a little. Although I love travelling while being young, I hope I continue to travel for the rest of my life! 🙂

That’s a great way to put it; your perspective really changes every time you come back from a trip. And same here! I hope we never stop travelling :]
