The Best Breakfast In Victoria – Jam Cafe

For those of you who have read some of my posts you will know that breakfast if my favourite meal of the day and for those of you who are new here.. I really loveee breakfast. I love the coffee, I love the food, I love waking up after dreaming about what I was going to eat and finally being able to eat it.

Along side being a breakfast lover I am also an all around food lover. a.k.a. I am a food snob. I love good food that feeds my soul both nutritionally and taste wise. While going out to breakfast isn’t always the healthiest option I make sure that the food I eat is worth the calories.

And with my luck, my cousin is the same way. On my trip to Victoria, British Columbia, to visit her for a week she gave me a list of all the best breakfast places and on our first food adventure we went to a place called Jam Cafe. Since Victoria is on Vancouver Island most of its produce comes from the locals and you can taste the freshness anywhere you eat but Jam is definitely where it is at.

They set the bar so high that we only made it to two other breakfast/brunch places because we couldn’t get enough!

One of the other places which my cousins husband wanted to go to was this place called Shine Cafe and it was not good.. my yogurt came on a bunch of random, gross, largely chopped fruits like apples, mellon, pineapple, grapefruit ect. which were all sour and watery tasting and if that wasn’t bad enough the bottom of the bowl was liquid. Like strange liquid that made the yogurt runny. Don’t go there.

Jam Cafe on the other hand was beyond amazing. It was the best breakfast in Victoria. We went there three times in eight days for both breakfast and lunch since their hours are 8am-3pm.

The first time we went I got the Yogurt Parfait which was spiced yogurt with home made granola and it was flawless. I don’t know how they made yogurt into a gourmet meal but they did. Because I wanted to try everything I also got a side of corn bread that they usually serve with the Huevos Rancheros which is what Aaron ended up ordering. He wouldn’t have shared anyways.

The second time we went we were on our way to try another place but that restaurant was closed that day for renovations.  We realized Jam was around the corner and waited in line. I wasn’t even a little upset.

I got the Mushaboon Burger which is a veggie burger on a pretzel bun. There was guacamole, corn salsa, spinach and pesto on top of a buttermilk battered Portobello mushroom. Yum! I got mine with a side salad to buffer some of the guilt but it was exactly what I wanted.

And then lastly, the third time we went, I got the Pan Fried Oatmeal. While it was more sugary than anticipated it was delicious and I had to stop myself from eating all of the massive portion. I got a buttermilk biscuit on the side as well and it was massive and tasty. I didn’t finish all the food but I did love it enough to bring it on the plane with me when we flew home that afternoon. Also yes.. Aaron did get the Huevos Rancheros twice because it had an entire layer dedicated to beans.

If you are ever in Victoria then this is hands down the best breakfast place out there. While the reviews say Blue Fox is the best I didn’t quite think it beat Jam. Not only are the portions here massive but their prices are reasonable and worth every penny.
