When I flew to Victoria I didn’t really know what to expect. My cousin described it as hippy town with lots of local shops and food and beaches. While I have been there before with my family I didn’t really appreciate it because I was so little and didn’t really understand where I was or what was happening.
On my five day venture there I could only sum it up in one word- Paradise.
While is isn’t the tropical paradise we are so accustomed to seeing in movies it was a perfect Canadian getaway for those who can’t afford a large overseas trip to places like Thailand or Hawaii.
For those five days I hung out with my cousin and Aaron exploring what all Victoria had to offer. I was slightly upset at myself for not knowing Canada had a place like this. It was so different from the normal landscape you usually see when looking at photos of Canada. In Victoria you can be sitting on the beach looking at snowy mountains! How cool is that?
It was warm and sunny and it apparently stayed like that all winter except instead of getting snow they got rain.
There were beaches, mountains, unlimited outdoor activities, markets and local food (which was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.)
Since Victoria is an island everything is locally farmed and bought so you can taste the difference in their food.
One of the most beautiful spots we visited was along this random beach we found (I will try and find the name for you) where you can see Washington from across the water. We watched cargo ships and sail boats drift by and then headed to a different beach where we made some drinks and hung out reminiscing.
For me it was a perfect relaxed day of exploring. We stopped in at a local food market and bought some dinner to cook back at the apartment and then had some drinks on the beach after. Another little perk about Victoria is that their liquor is cheaper than the liquor in Alberta for some reason.
Did you know Canada had places like this? I sure didn’t. And who else likes some drinks on the beach?! It was a perfect end to a lovely evening. Although we did stop at Safeway to get some drunk munch food.. Oh well!
