Why I Need To Go To Istanbul.. and you should to

I need to go to Istanbul, and you should too. For years now this place has been at the back of my mind and all over the internet. While I’ve never been here myself I am convinced that we need to go to! Once I get an idea of something, or in this case place, I spend all day and night learning about it and gather as much information about it as I can. I go Pinterest crazy and start stalking blogs and writing down little pieces of information like cute cafes or hidden streets..

I guess you can say it’s kind of a hobby of mine. Or maybe it’s just my obsessive personality? Whatever it is I count it as a perk especially if you’re travelling with me. After all what’s more fun than planning your next adventure besides going on it?! So that brings me to my latest obsession- Istanbul

What is more tantalizing than being somewhere where markets are buzzing with food, people, cafes and hookahs, textiles and beautiful headpieces? Not to mention the rich and diverse culture! And then there is the unique architecture like the Hagia Sophia. And all of this is affordable for your average traveller! If this isn’t enough to convince you, I have roamed the internet to show you just how beautiful and unique Istanbul is..

There’s the food.. because no exploration is complete without trying the amazing local food. Especially street food donuts!

There’s the Dolmabahçe Sarayı– Looks a bit Game Of Thronesy  doesn’t it?

There’s the spice markets.. so you can prepare the tastiest of meals and drown out any odd smells

There’s the Hagia Sophia.. so you can stand in awe at the exquisite beauty

And then there’s inside the Hagia Sophia..

There’s the cafes.. so you can sit and take it all in

And then there’s the Turkish Coffee that comes with it..

There’s the The Bosphorus Villages of Arnavutköy.. where you are lost in the beauty that make you want to pack your bags and make the move

There’s the ferry boats.. so you can explore more of this beautiful place

Like the Derya Ferry..

Then there’s the shopping bazars.. Because you can never get tied of all the colours

Go for it! I love traveling full time. I´m far from having enough work, but hope to get there at some point 😉 We try to skip big cities, but we have basically hitchhiked all the western coast – entered in Ippsala (Edirne) –> Cannakkale -> Izmir -> Adin – Denizli / Pamukkale -> Mugla -> Akyaka -> Marmaris -> Datca -> Fethiye -> hiking a week on the Lycian way -> Demre -> Finike -> Kemer where we are now. We actually did the Edirne – Marmairs way twice as I had to go back to the border for not getting registered the first time and ending up in Turkey illegally, but we are very slow anyway 🙂 we planned to spend the winter around the south coast so that´s where we hang out the most. Now we are moving towards Adana, heard so much of it so I´m really curious!

Derya is a takeaway restaurant. The fantastically decorated part is actually the kitchen. Go to Istanbul…there is nowhere like it

I went to Istanbul for the first time in March and loved it! You’ve definitely highlighted all the main reasons to visit, the culture is so interesting and there is so much to see and do. If you go, you should check out Basilica Cistern in the Old City. I thought it was fascinating! 🙂

    Hey Shelby 🙂
Hehehe I do exactly the same thing! My days are now spent dog-earing pages of books and typing word documents (organised by regions) of things to see in far off places ;D. Funny that we both do that. I love finding the hidden streets and best foods, my priorities are like yours – to explore, to really see and be in a place!
I have been reading this wonderful book, called ‘The World is a Carpet’ by Anna Badkhen, and I think you would like it :), reading it before bed is like reading the tales of 1000 and one Arabian Nights. The scenes swish over me. I know you are a busy girl these days, but it is a small book and an easy read :), I swear you will love it.
PS, I totally wrote down the names of those villages and that gate – cause baby, I will be there someday!
