8 Beauty Lessons We Can Learn From French Women

It’s Never Too Early To Start A Skin Care Regimen

The easiest way to get rid of wrinkles is to prevent them in the first place! French women know this so they always make their skin their first priority. This means washing your face every night, never sleeping with makeup on, always wearing SPF – even if you’re just going to the grocery store, and always moisturizing. Skin care is not an option – It’s a must! Click HERE for more French beauty tips.

Live Life With Purpose

The stroll through the park, a coffee date with a friend, the view from a balcony sipping a crisp white wine while enjoying a sunset. These are the little pleasures in life that hold so much purpose. The moments where your boyfriend steals a kiss or you find yourself at the local market picking out homemade jam to eat with a croissant on the weekend. It’s important to embrace the moments and to take time to enjoy your life. In North America we are so busy all the time and are scrutinized if we aren’t. We don’t know how to relax so I think this lesson is something I want to take away the most.

Own Your Style

Give yourself permission to be who you are meant to be. We get stuck in this cycle of thinking who we’re supposed to be instead of who we’re meant to be so we start dressing and acting in a way that is almost foreign to us. Whatever your style is wear it with confidence. Confidence is almost the key element to a French women’s style.

Everything In Moderation

Contrary to popular belief French woman are not constantly snacking on croissants and baguettes everyday. In fact, French women take their diet seriously so they shop at the grocery store or local market to buy healthy fats, fresh fruit, veggies, legumes and fish. These foods are good for our bodies and our skin. But don’t get me wrong – they also know how to indulge! They just indulge in moderation but they will never deny themselves a pleasure as that would lead to stress which leads to wrinkles! Also they worry about sugar, not fat.

Find Your Scent

They say scent is the most powerful sense that can trigger a memory and the French women have known this for years. Even if they don’t remember your name they will remember your aroma so find your signature scent and stick with it. My scent is this very unique perfume that smells like sweet bread.

Embrace Imperfections

Quite possibly the most important lesson we can learn from French women is to embrace our imperfections. The messy bun, the smokey eye that’s a little too over smudged. Instead of trying to modify your imperfections highlight the qualities that you like most. They believe we should leave our imperfections alone as opposed to hiding them under layers of makeup or hair because that’s what makes us unique. For me I am self conscious of my nose, but I like my eyes so I frame they with full eyebrows.

Everything Must Be Effortless

Your style, your makeup, your hair, your walk.. The French have mastered this ease and effortless style so much it hurts to look at them sometimes. It’s as if they rolled out of bed looking so perfect. They live by the less-is-more style and that’s something I always admired. I’ve never been a huge makeup wearer – especially now that I’m in my 24, but I do enjoy a bold brow and a nude lip. Some things I like to do is wear a tinted moisturizer, use a lighter concealer to highlight my nonexistent cheek bones, define my eyebrows with a powder and to highlight and contour my cheeks. Some days I’ll wear mascara but for the most part I go for the natural look because that’s what suits me the most.

Enjoy The Finer Things In Life

Luxuries shouldn’t be for the rich and famous no matter what the media tells us. We can all live luxurious lives if it’s within our means. Save up for that beautiful dress, treat yourself to a fine meal, get a bottle of wine whenever you feel like it (living shouldn’t be meant for the weekends), buy that romantic lingerie you like even if you’re the only one who can see it.

Stop spending money on “stuff” and instead spend your money on experiences and things you truly want. Life is about enjoyment and being content. So learn from the French and enjoy the richer things in life that make you, and your soul, happy. It’s important to be in love with your life.

I totally agree that the effortless attitude is the crux of French women’s charm. But definitely behind the scenes it’s important to take good care of your skin and hair and body in general. That way, when you’re getting ready you don’t have to do much, you already look naturally great!

Exactly! It’s better to prep your face as well as you can so you don’t have to drown it in makeup! Thanks for the comment!!
