Age Gracefully With This Nighttime Routine

So I’m kind of a nutter when it comes to skincare (if you think I use that word a lot blame my mother) and I really want to age gracefully. As an avid traveller and a former labourer who spent my days in the sun I really take precautions to make sure I’m not damaging my skin. Your face is with you for life so you want to do everything you can to be nice to it. And if I can protect my skin from the elements and prevent premature wrinkles then why wouldn’t I do it? Since I’m now in my mid twenties my skincare regimen is more important than ever because this is the “maintenance phase” where you want to upkeep your current skin. Plus there’s something luxurious about having a step-by-step skincare routine don’t you think? Maybe I’m a bit weird.

I’m such a skincare nut I would always cringe when I first started dating Aaron because he hardly took care of his skin (I love you!) and when he did he would alwaysssssss forget to moisturize which is the essence of skincare. But now 3 years in I kind of force him to moisturize and to use botanical oils 😛 Best part is he likes it! Anyways here are some steps to help your skin age gracefully:

Hydrate hydrate hydrate

The number one thing you can do to prevent pre-mature wrinkles and to age gracefully is drink at least 3 litres of water a day. Water helps keep your skin plump and full so you won’t get creases easily! Drink at least 3 litres of water a day and avoid alcohol. If you do drink and consume caffeine just make sure you are combating their dehydrating properties with extra water.

Dr. Gross anti-aging moisturizer

Retinal is now your best friend. You want to apply this guy every night before bed on a clean face. Retinal can sometimes burn when put in direct sunlight this is why you put it on before bed. I SWEAR by this stuff. I had these fine lines around my mouth (cubby cheek problems) and I was so self conscious. I started using this and I noticed immediate results. You can’t even see the lines anymore. I’ll forever be loyal to Dr. Gross – it’s worth the money

Sunscreen with zinc oxide

You can say I’ve become a wiz at skincare but the sun is what’s really going to age you so sunscreen is the best thing you can do to prevent pre-mature wrinkles. The mineral zinc oxide protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays because it sits on your skin which is the only real way to protect your skin from the sun. Cool huh? Unlike the majority of the sunscreens that take 30 minutes to activate zinc sunscreen protects your skin immediately which makes it perfect for when you are in a rush. I use Josie Maran which is a moisturizer and also has a SPF of 47!

20 botanical oils

Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist has all of these to make your hunt easy but the point of all these oils is to give your skin everything it needs. Oils are going to nurture your skin and keep it plump with antioxidants and hydration. Oils can also stimulate the rejuvenation of skin cells, aid in the detoxification process, and keep skin firm and elasticy.

REN anti-pollution spray

I bought this on a trip to China to protect my skin from their heavy pollution (read more here) and I am truly happy I did because I did not expect the smog in Beijing to be that bad butttt it’s pretty bad. Using this spray I protected my skin from this stuff called “free radicals.” Short story is free radicals are pretty much some unstable atoms that are reactive and not good for you or your skin. Because of this guy my skin was protected from all the harm! Use in the mornings and night or when needed.

Coconut oil

Yes this love of everyone is involved. Coconut oil has anti-bacterial properties and is extremely hydrating for the skin. It’s best used as the last part of a skincare routine because moisturizers and serums can’t penetrate through oil. Pin your hair away till it’s absorbed or you’ll have greasy hair. Learned from experience!

Vitamin A, C and E

The most important vitamins for your skin. Vitamin A is also known as retinal (I didn’t know this) which is the key for cell growth. Vitamin C is an antioxidant aimed for tissue growth and repair. And Vitamin E helps rejuvenate retinal levels.  These three vitamins are the foundation for good healthy skin! I use a white tea moisturizer like this one.
