Oh my you guys.. this is my new favourite! This cinnamon iced latte tastes. so. good. I feel like people don’t understand my obsession with cinnamon. I see recipes that call for a TBSP and scoff and begin to free pour till the baking bowl is alllllll brown. I put it in my smoothies every morning on my way to work and my friends would laugh and say they could smell me coming. I also drown my apples in cinnamon to the point of where they look like brown squares and I would get weird looks. “What is that?” People would ask. I started adding cinnamon to my soy lattes and I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that sooner! Any excuse to add it to more things in my life is welcome. I honestly think cinnamon is my equivalent to other peoples coconut oil.. If I could cinnamonize my life I would.
Cinnamon not only tastes and smell amazing but it also has so many health factors! It fights diabetes, contains anti-inflammatory properties, is a high source of anti-oxidants, protects brain function, fights infection and viruses, boosts metabolism, reduses blood sugar levels and has even been said to help skin! That’s a lot of good reasons why you should be adding cinnamon to everything. But it’s not always about health benefits. Sometimes you just got to do things because it tastes good.
Fun fact: did you know that cinnamon was once more valuable than gold in ancient times? Pretty cool.
As a former barista (I have 2 years experience under my belt) I kind of know the trade secrets. Starbucks for example. If you want a coffee Frappuccino ask for espresso shots instead of the coffee concentrate – you will thank me. Or if you just want a late night yummy drink ask for a cinnamon dolce steamer with soy and a scoop of the vanilla powder. Also unreal. The thing I loved most about being a barista was I got to spend my time making yummy drinks for people and surprising them with my own concoctions. It was fun! But as nice as it is I like to make my coffees at home to save myself from all the added calories.
Cinnamon Iced Latte Sweetened With Honey
3-4 Cinnamon Sticks
1/2 Cup Water
1/2 Cup Honey
1 TSP Cinnamon grounds
Dash Of Vanilla Extract
1 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Nut Milk
2 Espresso Shots (alternative below)
Frozen Coffee Cubes
Heat water, cinnamon sticks, vanilla extract and honey on the stove over low heat. Stir regularly to avoid burning on the bottom. Sprinkle in cinnamon grounds and whisk together. I find the cinnamon likes to clump so whisking should thin it out. Once the ingredients have melted together put them in a container and set in the fridge. Once the cinnamon syrup has cooled pour about a 1-2 tablespoon into your glass. I used 2 for mine. You can make it as sweet or unsweet are you want. Brew yourself two espresso shots (or more depending on desired coffee taste) and put over top the syrup. Next add your nut milk over the espresso and syrup, add frozen coffee cubes to drink and sprinkle with cinnamon!
If you don’t have an espresso machine this is okay! Brew yourself a strong cup of coffee, cool down with some ice/coffee cubes and use that in place of your espresso. This is just called a misto but still taste just as good!
